Lower Dolpo Trek (15 Days)

The remote Himalaya peaks of Dolpo and one of the deep Himalayan lakes, the Phokhsundo with attractive turquoise blue color, the yak caravans that preserve the conventional salt business with Tibet are some of the important assets of Lower Dolpo region that attracts a number of tourists. The area lies more north from the Dhaulagiri Himalayan range in the rain shade.

Our walk takes us from side to side with a forested area, then shift through rough canyons in the desolate highland near the boundary with Tibet. Actually, experiencing the high elevated tundra and rocks as well as the microclimate of Lower Dolpo region and serene Lake Phoksundo with the freezing atmosphere of the glaciers of Kanjiroba will stun you.  The Lower Dolpo Trek is intended for actual adventurers who love visiting an out of the way path. This remote area in western Nepal was permitted to visit for the foreigners just in 1990. The trek will pass all the way through Shey-Phoksundo National Park with impressive peak scenery, Buddhist monasteries plus yak caravans.

You can visit Lower Dolpo from the government registered trek agency that has received permission for going to restricted areas. Detailed Program

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu
As you reach at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, Third Eye Adventure arranges as airport representative who will meet you and end up the formalities (Visa, etc). You just need to confirm our representative with a show board at the way in gate. You will after that shift to the hotel. In the evening, we will have a welcome dinner at a long-established Nepalese restaurant and also observe a Nepal is cultural program. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing and preparing for trek
Today, you will go for sightseeing in Kathmandu. The main fascinations of the sightseeing tour are going around Kathmandu valley where you can see many age-old temples, architectures and more; going around Boudhanath which is one of the biggest Buddhist Stupa in the entire world; Swayambhunath, a renowned monkey temple falling at the hillock; Pashupatinath, a prominent Hindu temple and numerous enthralling places to visit. And many of them are enlisted in UNESCO’s world heritage list. Also, we will prepare for trek today. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj(165m)
We will fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj located on the edge to India. After reaching Nepalgunj, we will shift to hotel. On this day, we can go around the Bageshwari Temple devoted to Goddess Kali. Moreover, in Nepalgunj, you can make a visit to a bazaar here which has varied materiald on sale. Overnight in Nepalgunj.

Day 04: Nepalgunj to Juphal to Dunai
Today, we will fly from Nepalgunj to Juphal (2345m). When we arrive at Juphal (2500m), we start a short walk to Dunai (2050m). We stroll down passing through grazing land and get around via not many houses to the tiny hotels at Kala Gaura. Later, we go side by side with the river that makes way up to Dunai. We install our camp near to Dunai to stay overnight.

Day 05: Trek to Tarakot
We will begin trekking along the south side of the river to walk through gorges, hanging bridges and cut off villages. We will see a wonderful gorge with pine trees and path above the river. The multicolored terraced grassland of Tarakot will welcome us. Tarakot is an aged fortress city. The community stands on a small hill to the southern side of Bheri River

Day 06:  Trek to Laini
On this day we will follow the Tarap chu river and pass by bridge. We will cross the river twice. The prominent Sandul monastery falls farther east from Tarakot. Then we will pass the intersection of Barbung River and Tarup chu River leading us all the way through the terraces plus rural villages.  After passing a number of ascends and down way we will reach at Laini to stay overnight.

Day 07:  Trek to Nawarpani
We will make way up to the gap of the Tarap River and shift high above on a track falling out of steep slopes. The stroll is quite moving as the gorge turns out to be narrow that in a number of places you can jump. We will move down to Chyugur River. Sometimes the trail goes away from sight for a while moving across rock slabs built-in on logs amid the walls which work as a bridge.

Day 08:  Trek to Do Tarap
We will gradually move up at Kamattarka at the union of the Lang and Tarap Chu Khola from the east. After that we will be on top of tree lines- juniper and wild rose, distinctive of dry Himalayan valleys. After walking 3 hours we will reach Dho Tarap village encircled by a jagged stone wall. Tarap is also settled by Bon Po, Chaiba and a few Tibetans and typically Magars who have resided here for a lot of generations. 

Day 09:  Rest Day at Do Tarap
We will rest in Do Tarap for steadily getting familiar with the altitude. We go around monasteries and get pleasure from the wonderful views.  The Buddhist Gompa is close our camp plus the Bon Gompa (pre Buddhist) is around half an hour's stroll.

Day 10:  Trek to Numa La Base Camp
Our journey move to upper Tarap valley, the stroll follows in this clear valley with lush verdant grass beside the river. The trek on this enjoyable path that leads by the Tarap chu stream. Tarap is without doubt a dream vale with immense plains in lofty mountains.  Then we will move to Tokyu, it has a monastery of Chiba sect. After we make a trip to this village our stroll continues to this valley ascending up the irregular track for roughly three hours to get to Numa-la where we settle overnight.

Day 11:  Cross Numa La and camp at Pelung Tang
This is one of the lengthy and tricky days during the walk. Our journey moves to pass of Numa La pass at 5,190m the path leads to vertical path up all the way to the apex of Numa la with huge views of the surrounding landscapes. An unbelievable panoramic picture of peaks of Dolpo to the Dhaulagiri (8167m) appears.  After moving to the apex of Numa La we will slide down to camp at Pelung Tang. 

Day 12:  Cross Baga La and camp Dajok Tang
We trek on a steep way up to get to the crest top of Baga-la lying at 5,070m, which presents incredible views of the adjoining landscapes and of the far-off snowy peaks including Kanjirowa Himal range, after a wonderful time at the pass, roughly three hours of downhill stroll to the Dajok Tang to stay overnight.

Day 13:  Trek to Ringmo
We will pass from side to side with the pine woods. After that vegetation changes for grazing land and alpine shrubs the majority of the path to Ringmo on the steady way with number of ups and downs to Ringmo.

Day 14:  Rest Day at Ringmo for a hike to Phoksundo Lake
We have a rest in Ringmo.  We will sit right on the beach of the amazing Phoksundo Lake. This is the lovely day and you will get the chance to go around the close by Tibetan Buddhist monastery. This is the beautiful views of Phoksundo lake areas and great views will mesmerize you on this day.  Overnight at camp.

Day 15:  Trek to Shyanta
Trek downhill to Chepka. From Chepka the trail follows the massive overhanging rock. We found many important medicinal mineral which is believed to cure almost anything in this area. The route then passes through the villages, before climbing to Shyanta. (B, L, D)

Day 16:  Trek to Jhupal
Following the path lightly moving up, we will stroll to Jhupal passing all the way through Sulighat. We will also go by birch trees. From the crest, we can observe the most astonishing views of the climax and Jhupal beneath. After reaching Jhupal, we will explore the busy market.

Day 17:  Fly to Kathmandu through Nepalgunj
We will fly to Nepalgunj from Jhupal. And from Nepalgunj, we come back to Kathmandu. Upon entrance in Kathmandu, you will shift to hotel. Remaining time, we can relax today or last minute shopping. Overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 18: Fly back to your destination
Our airport agent will take you to the Tribhuvan International Airport for your return to you home country. We will hope to see you again since we organize a lot of other peak climbing options, as well as tours, expeditions, and sports activities.

Useful Information for Third Eye Adventure

Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is one of the essential parts to craft before you travel so that you shall be protected against wide-ranging expenses likely to gain due to health issues or accidents which include helicopter rescue, air ambulance, treatment costs etc.

Accommodations 
There are two sorts of accommodations during the trek. You will stay two nights in Kathmandu in a 3-star hotel while during your trek you will stay in typical teahouse or lodge or guest house or hotel with unheated rooms with foam mattresses in wood beds. We make available attached bathrooms as much as feasible; still there are some places which can only offer shared washing and bathroom facilities.

Meals 
During the trek, you can get pleasure from typical Nepali cookery, diverse cultural cuisines as well as international food including Tibetan, Italian, Continental, Indian, etc. You will have your breakfast at the same teahouse or lodge where you spent your night while lunch will be dished up en-route to destination; and dinner will be served at the place where you will spend the night.

Equipments necessary for your trek:
1) Fro head and face-Sun hat or scarf, Sunglasses with UV protection cream 
2) Upper Body: - T-shirts, Light expedition thermal tops, pullover or Fleece jacket, Fleece Wind-Cheater jacket, Waterproof shell jacket 
3) Lower Body: - Under Garments, Lightweight cotton long pants, Hiking shorts, Light and trip weight thermal bottoms, Waterproof (if possible breathable fabric), Fleece or wool pants (seasonal),
4) Feet: - Thin inner socks, Thick warm woolen socks, Camp shoes (sneakers or sandals), Hiking boots, Gaiters for hiking to the base camp in winter
5) Hands: - Heavyweight gloves or mittens, Lightweight gloves, 
6) Accessories: - Sleeping bag, Headlamp with spare bulbs and batteries, Trekking Bags, Basic First Aid Kit, Trekking Poles, Water bottles, Toiletries 
7) Extras/Luxuries – Binoculars, book, Guide book, Journal & Pen, Walkman etc

Acclimatization 
High altitude sickness is likely to occur. The fraction dispersion of hemoglobin with oxygen resolves the substance of oxygen in our blood. When we reach around 2,100 m high above sea level the diffusion of oxyhemoglobin begins to drop. Nevertheless, the human being has both.
