Kanchenjunga Trek (24 Days)

Third Eye Adventure arranges Kanchenjunga Trek, the superb trekking alternative in Nepal which is positioned just at the bottom of the huge peak Kanchenjunga lying at 8,586m. Kanchenjunga is the third top mountain on the earth. The region around Kanchenjunga is packed with alpine graze land, opaque and sub-tropical woods and tiny river gorge. It is placed to the north-east part of Nepal and is bounded by China and India. This region lets you have a sight of range of customs and changing panorama plus terraced fields, attractive forests of birch, rhododendron, and so on.

We will go by passing all the way through the communities of Brahmins, Limbu, Chhetris, Rai and more which lets you come across cultural multiplicity in the eastern part of Nepal. Furthermore, wild lives such as musk deer, blue sheep, Himalayan bear etc. come on your way. Besides you will be overwhelmingly greeted by the striking vistas of Makalu, Chamlang, Kanchenjunga as well as Everest. Walking further on from the Tibetan part of Ghunsa, with its well constructed wooden houses, numerous prayer flags, kind people, we will go to the north facade base camp at Pang Pema to be found at 5100m. We will locate our camp where we will be escorted by the full picture of the fantastic north face of Kanchenjunga, which is placed on top of the glacier.

The region of Kanchenjunga established for visitors only in 1988. Trekkers get two diverse options to walk the Southern base camp or North Kanchenjunga base camp. The Kanchenjunga is the restricted spot for trekkers and it entail allow from a registered trekking agency. Day 01: Welcome to Kathmandu (1320m). Our representative will be at airport with your name card. Once you grab him you will be heartily welcomed by him putting garland on your neck which means welcome to Nepal. Then you will be driven to the hotel by car. Rest and enjoy the day around the town.

Day 02: Sightseeing around Kathmandu Valley (Buddhanath, Pashupatinath, Patan Durbar Square and Swambhnath Stupa) with professional tour guide then after evening you will have meeting with Trekking guide who will support you for trekking preparation.

Day 03: Take early morning flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur or Biratnagar and then drive to Phidim (6-7 hours drive). Overnight at hotel

Day 04: Drive from Phidim to Taplejung (1820 m) 3-4 hours then trek to Mitlung (920m) for 3 hours.

Day 05: Trek to Chirwa (1300m) 4-5 hours. The trails ascends and descends as its pace and we walk through rice field and thick forest crossing some rivers.

Day 06: Trek to Sekathum (1670m) 5 - 6 hours.Today we pass many cardamom field since its famous for this region then down to the big forest and follow Tamor river then arrives Sekathum.

Day 07: Trek to Amjilosa (2520m) 6- 7 hours. Today will be little tougher day since the trail has more up and down as well as tricky. Have to be careful in the gorge.

Day 08: Trek to Gyabla (2730 m) 5 - 6 hours. The trails lead ahead through delnse bamboo and rhododendron forest. You can enjoy by seeing many waterfalls during the walk.

Day 09: Trek to Ghunsa (3595 m) 4 - 5 hours. First we descend and enter an open valley where you can feel Tibetan lifestyle since there is a Tibetan refugees settlements. You can find Tibetan made souvenirs on the way. Ghunsa is a big Sherpa village where you will spend two nights.

Day 10: Acclimatisation day in Ghunsa. Today will have rest day at Ghunsa. During acclimatization you can either visit a monastery Lapsan La or could hike up to 4200 m on the way to Dudhkunda (milky lake). 4 - 5 hours.

Day 11: Trek to Kambachen (4050 m) 5 - 6 hours. We trek further north along the river bank with the mind blowing views of mountain through the Rhododendron and pine forest.

Day 12: Trek to Lhonak (4780 m) 6 - 7 hours. Another tough day here as we need to start walking earlier. We pass through rocky field and land slide where steady in needed.

Day 13: Day hiking to Pangpema (5065 m) and Kanchenjunga base camp (5338m) on the north side 5 - 6 hours to view the Mt. Kanchenjunga and return to Lhonak.

Day 14: Trek back to Ghunsa (3595 m) 6-7 hours We come back to Ghunsa after achieving our goal enjoy downhill walking to Ghunsa.

Day 15: Trek to Selele (4300 m) 5 - 6 hours. It will be steep trek upward to Selele through dense forest of Rododendron and Juniper.

Day 16: Today will be the extreme day since we need to cross 3 different passes. Trek Sele La – Sinion La Pass (4460 m) – Mirgin La Pass (4480 m) – Sinelapcha La Pass (4646 m) – Tseram (3870 m) - 7 - 8 hours.

Day 17: Day hiking to Oktang Base Camp - 5 - 6 hours.
We go for day hiking to Oktang to observe the Kanchenjunga South and return to Tseram

Day 18: Trek to Torangden (2995m) 5 - 6 hours. We descend all the way down to Torangden through lush of Rhododendron forest.

Day 19: Trek to Yamphudin (2080m) 6 - 7 hours. We again descend down to Yamphudin which is a big village of Sherpa, Rai Limbu inhabitants.

Day 20: Trek to Khebang (1910m) 4 - 5 hours. Today we trek down to Khebang.

Day 21: Trek to Khandembe (1420 m) 5 - 6 hours. We head to Khandembe village which is on e of the biggest village of Limbu inhabitants.

Day 22: Trek to Medibung (1510 m) 3 hours and drive to Ilam (2150m) 4 - 5 hours.

Day 23: Drive to Bhadrapur / Biratnagar and fly to Kathmandu

Day 24: Departure. Fly back home or onward journey.

Useful Information for Third Eye Adventure

Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is one of the essential parts to craft before you travel so that you shall be protected against wide-ranging expenses likely to gain due to health issues or accidents which include helicopter rescue, air ambulance, treatment costs etc.

There are two sorts of accommodations during the trek. You will stay two nights in Kathmandu in a 3-star hotel while during your trek you will stay in typical teahouse or lodge or guest house or hotel with unheated rooms with foam mattresses in wood beds. We make available attached bathrooms as much as feasible; still there are some places which can only offer shared washing and bathroom facilities.

During the trek, you can get pleasure from typical Nepali cookery, diverse cultural cuisines as well as international food including Tibetan, Italian, Continental, Indian, etc. You will have your breakfast at the same teahouse or lodge where you spent your night while lunch will be dished up en-route to destination; and dinner will be served at the place where you will spend the night.

Equipments necessary for your trek:
1) Fro head and face-Sun hat or scarf, Sunglasses with UV protection cream 
2) Upper Body: - T-shirts, Light expedition thermal tops, pullover or Fleece jacket, Fleece Wind-Cheater jacket, Waterproof shell jacket 
3) Lower Body: - Under Garments, Lightweight cotton long pants, Hiking shorts, Light and trip weight thermal bottoms, Waterproof (if possible breathable fabric), Fleece or wool pants (seasonal),
4) Feet: - Thin inner socks, Thick warm woolen socks, Camp shoes (sneakers or sandals), Hiking boots, Gaiters for hiking to the base camp in winter
5) Hands: - Heavyweight gloves or mittens, Lightweight gloves, 
6) Accessories: - Sleeping bag, Headlamp with spare bulbs and batteries, Trekking Bags, Basic First Aid Kit, Trekking Poles, Water bottles, Toiletries 
7) Extras/Luxuries – Binoculars, book, Guide book, Journal & Pen, Walkman etc
High altitude sickness is likely to occur. The fraction dispersion of hemoglobin with oxygen resolves the substance of oxygen in our blood. When we reach around 2,100 m high above sea level the diffusion of oxyhemoglobin begins to drop. Nevertheless, the human being has both.
